It’s crunch time, just a few more weeks before your event. You’ve just about got everything set. All the invitations have been mailed and you’ve booked the function hall. The caterers have planned a fantastic meal, and you’ve hired The Beantown Sound as your Disc Jockey. So, right about now you are feeling pretty good because you’ve got so much accomplished. Congratulations, you’ve done well if you’ve made it this far. When it comes to planning a party, most people wait until the last minute. Sometimes you are forced into rushing decisions because you haven’t had the time to educate yourself about one of the most overlooked and, perhaps, the best part of the party. Giveaways!

Giveaways are also commonly called party favors. In other words, Giveaways are novelty items that are given away by the DJ to your crowd. I’m sure you’ve been to functions, and remember seeing the DJ give out all kinds of funky favors throughout the evening. It is the DJ’s job to cater to the children, teens and adults. Giveaways should not to be confused with prizes. Prizes are strictly for contests winners.

Giveaways help us make what we call an Interactive Atmosphere for an unforgettable party. An Interactive Atmosphere allows each individual to be fully encompassed into the activities of your party. When an average song is played, for example, “Y.M.C.A.” by the Village People, it will provide your guests with the opportunity to become the characters by distributing policeman, fireman, and construction hats, and even Indian headdresses. The Beantown Sound uses several props and Giveaways to transform the crowd into a style fitted uniquely to the activities and feel of your party. The addition of festive items, such as hats and sunglasses, get people on the dance floor and keep them partying. This enthusiastic environment is what we call an Interactive Atmosphere. Now before we give away all our party secrets, listed below are a few helpful hints about what to get when choosing your party favors.

   From Felt Hats to Fedoras, Bandanas to Wigs, accent your party. Choose from Mexican Straw Hats, Top Hats and Derbies!
2. Inflatable Instruments & Toys!
   Help your guests rock all night long and become members of the band with our inflatable instruments including,
   electric guitars, baseball bats and slip on shoes. They're great for Karaoke Sing-a-Longs!
3. Disguise your Guests!
   Accent your party with our fabulous sunglasses, sequin, feather, metallic and neon masks. Have a Masquerade
   Ball, a Mardi Gras Party, or just liven up your dance floor.

   Light-ropes, glow bracelets, light sticks, glow and battery operated novelties.

Of course, occasionally we come across bad giveaway ideas. Dangerous or unusable items can be a liability issue and a cleanup factor. We will not give out easily projected items such as ‘bouncy balls.’ In the hands of a child, items such as ‘silly string,’ can be dangerous. The cleanup factor is quite important. Some function halls will actually make you pay for clean up in their contract. We strongly recommend you have a final review with your DJ a few weeks prior to the function.

You now know what to get, but how many giveaways are appropriate for your party? On average, 75% of your attendants will participate. With a party estimate of 100 guests, we will assume that 75 will participate in the giveaways throughout the evening. With the 75%, figure, (75 people) assuming each person will accumulate 4 different giveaway items, 300 items will be distributed. From our experience we rely on this figure on all occasions unless, your RSVP figures suggest the situation should be handled differently. However, it is always better to over estimate then not have enough novelties for everyone. For those who are
on a small budget, items such as glow ropes and more expensive items are of course not the best idea. Items such as jewelry, hats and sunglasses are available at a lower cost.
